It’s that season that everyone of us wishes we could skip every year. I am talking about the cold and flu season. If you are a long time reader of this blog, then you know that we have covered the homemade cough and cold syrup as well as the homemade vapour rub recipe before. You can also add this homemade fire cider recipe, to the list.
Your immune system will thank you for introducing this homemade formula to your body. It’s choke full of all your favorite home remedy ingredients, it is no wonder that this ‘cider’ does wonders when it comes to protecting you from those annoying seasonal illnesses. The recipe below will allow you to make a half gallon batch, which should be enough to cover you and your family for a year or so. There are many different recipes, this is my favorite one.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- yellow onion
- horseradish root
- garlic
- ginger
- dried cayenne pepper or fresh cayenne peppers
- fresh thyme or dried thyme
- whole black peppercorns
- lemon
- raw honey
- raw apple cider vinegar
- strainer
- gallon jar
- parchment paper or plastic wrap (optional)
Prepare your ingredients as instructed by the recipe, tossing them one by one into the jar. The honey and the apple cider vinegar go in last before you give everything a good shake. If you are using a jar with a metal lid, you need to layer parchment paper or plastic wrap before screwing it on. Store the jar in a cool dry place for up to a month, the longer the better. Make sure that you strain before use.
