Nowadays whenever I have a craving for one of my ‘comfort’ foods, I always turn to the internet for a little help. That is how I ended up discovering the homemade caramel recipe, homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe and homemade bisquick recipe. My latest craving resulted in the unearthing of this homemade sour cream onion chips recipe.
Of the many available Lay’s chips flavors this has to be one of my favorites. I let out a sharp shrill the day I ran into this homemade recipe. Who knew that with just 6 simple ingredients you could make these in your own kitchen, without any added chemicals that could be harmful to you?
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- russet potatoes
- full-fat sour cream
- water
- dried parsley
- onion powder
- salt
- immersion blender
- food dehydrator
- large bowl
- non-stick dehydrator sheets
- spatula
- air tight container
- parchment paper (optional)
Your potatoes have to be cooked first before you can get started. Feel free to use whatever method you find easiest to cook them, I just boil them in a large pot with water for a few minutes. The immersion blender is then used to mix all the ingredients including the potatoes in a large bowl. A wooden spoon could also do the trick, it may just take a little more time and energy.
The creamy potato paste is then spread thinly on the dehydrator sheets, in order to begin the drying process. Halfway through the whole process, the big sheet will need to be flipped over, be patient when you do that so that you do not break it. When the drying process is complete you can break the chips into smaller pieces and store in an air tight container or jar. Enjoy each batch within 48 hours.
