DIY Honey Extractor

If you are a sucker for honey, you should really be keeping your own bees on your homestead. You can build your own ware beehive or maybe try this beehive in a jar? What ever you do, once your honeycombs are packed with honey you are going to need this diy honey extractor to extract it.

If you do a quick Google search, you are going to pull up a whole bunch of results for homemade honey extractor plans. I chose this particular one, simply because I like simple plans. Also a lot of the materials can be scavenged from in and around the homestead, thus reducing the cost. Speaking of cost, do you know how much a manufactured one of these goes for? You don’t wanna know! LOL

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • bike wheels

  • 1″ coarse bolts with nuts

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
  • fence brackets
  • 2″ honey gate (optional)
  • cam-cote
  • cotter pins
  • 6×8 metal flashing
  • plastic spigot or ball valve
  • handheld drill

The two main parts of this build are the barrel and the bicycle rim. It is important that the rim fits into the barrel, so take your measuring tape out and start measuring. The rim will hold the frame cage with a brace installed, to keep it balanced when spinning.

Optionally a honey gate can be installed on the bottom of the barrel, alternatively you could just use a plastic spigot or ball valve. Don’t forget to wash and coat the metal parts with a food grade epoxy paint before use.
