Laundry time is everyone’s favorite time in any household, right? Ummmm wrong! LOL Regardless, it is one of those tasks that has to be done at least once a week. I have already shown you how to make homemade liquid laundry soap as well as diy fabric softener and homemade dryer sheets in earlier posts. Today we will be making some diy powder laundry detergent that you can use too.
If you fire up Google for a quick search, you are obviously going to end up with quite a few of these homemade detergent recipes. They are all pretty much the same, you need three ingredients one of them being some kind of soap. This is when you budget comes into play, some of your options include zote soap, fels-naptha or castile soap. I personally like the castile soap.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 1 bar soap or castile soap
- 2 cups borax
- 2 cups washing soda
- grater or food processor
- medium bowl
- air tight container
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1.
Grate your soap into the bowl.
Step 2.
Mix in the the other two ingredients.
Step 3.
Dump everything into the storage container, secure the lid and give it a good shake.
That’s it your soap is ready to go. When washing you can use 1 to 2 tablespoons of the powder depending on how dirty your clothes are. Also make sure that you add the detergent to the actual bin of your washing machine instead of the detergent trays. If you are lazy like me, you can use a food processor instead of the grater, just make sure you cut the soap into smaller chunks or you may damage your processor.
