How To Make Salmon Jerky

My love for salmon is what has led me to trying to figure out how to make salmon jerky. On this blog we have already attempted this homemade salmon seasoning recipe, this firecracker salmon recipe and this honey mustard salmon recipe. All because, there are many different ways to skin a cat, and in this case our cat is the salmon. LOL.

How many homemade jerky recipes have you tried? Personally, I am still a novice when it comes to making jerky. It’s an easy process though, we probably should start making more jerky around here. For this recipe, please make sure that you use fresh salmon, the middle piece preferably. Also, instead of using a food dehydrator you can just use your oven, the drying time should be about the same in both.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

I find that the salmon is always easier to cut when slightly frozen, so placing it in the freezer for about half an hour as recommended is a wise choice. When frozen slice your salmon into 1/4 inch thick pieces and be sure to remove the flesh from the skin. The brine is simple to make, just mix all the ingredients well in a small bowl.

Most of the time I let my salmon sit in the brine overnight, before laying it out on paper towels to soak up any excess liquid in the morning. Handle with extreme care as you transfer it from the brine, to the paper towels to the dehydrator. The jerky should be done in about 4 hours, it actually changes color to a darker reddish brown color.
