It is also known as salsoa soda, barril, roscano, saltwort, friar’s beard or Russian thistlewort. It is mainly grown in the Mediterranean region and has a distinctive salty and bitter taste as suggested by some of the names. Appearance wise, it is similar to chives hence you will often find it added to salads. The seeds are becoming increasingly difficult to find, but if you can find them you can easily grow your own in your backyard garden.
