Homemade Tomato Fertilizer Recipe

Tomato, tomato-e. If you have never heard anyone say that before, well you just have. One of the very first posts I published on this blog was on the super easy way to grow tomatoes. We have since looked at how to grow diy upside down tomatoe planter , how to prune tomatoes and even built these diy tomato cages. Clearly I love my tomatoes, which is why I want to share my favorite homemade tomato fertilizer recipe today.

There are many options when it comes to homemade fertilizers, but I personally highly recommend this particular mix after having tried it last gardening season. There are alternate ingredients you can try, for example instead of using wood ash, you could substitute kelp meal and bone meal. Also if you prefer using liquid fertilizer in your garden, you can simply add water after the ‘curing process’ and have the liquefied version in less than a week. Your tomatoes need this, give it a try.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

The compost is the base for your fertilizer, make sure that you use a high quality compost and remove any clumps that maybe present. The vericompost goes in next, followed by the eggshells and the animal droppings. Wood ash is next, then the coffee grounds and if you are going to add any human or pet hair that goes in last. After giving everything a good mix, you want to seal the bucket and then let it sit for at least 30 days to allow the fertilizer to cure.
