DIY High Brick Fire Pit

Why on earth it has to be this freezing cold in the winter, beats me. We try our best to keep warm using various means at our disposal. We have the diy washing machine drum fire pit, the diy fire pit from pavers as well as the diy in ground fire pit around our homestead. If you don’t like any of those, then you might want to try this diy high brick fire pit instead.

When snooping around at various fire pit designs, I am always amazed at how creative people can be with these. This particular one is ideal for those of us with limited building knowledge, it is basically involves laying the stones one on top of the other. There is no mixing or playing with mortar. Plus you can build it with its back to a fence or wall, if you are tight on space.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • patio stones or concrete pavers
  • crusher run
  • levels
  • tape measure
  • edging shovel
  • spade shovel
  • hand tamp
  • marking paint
  • rake
  • quikcrete

Start out by marking the area where you will be building your fire pit using the marking paint. After establishing the dimensions, it will be time to get your hands dirty digging out the marked area, then filling it with the crush and eventually making sure that everything is level before you can start laying down your stones.

Your first level of stones is the most important. Ensure that it is level before building up the other rows. If you want a design similar to the one in the picture above, then you will need about 3 rows in the front before you start stepping out the sides towards the back. Optionally, concrete can be added in the middle for a hard base to light your fire on. 🙂
