Homemade Fish Stock Recipe

I still don’t get why some people throw away certain parts of fish like the heads. Let’s just say that you were making the cajun blackened fish recipe or the easy easy fish stew recipe, and you did remove the heads. Don’t throw them away. Use them for making this homemade fish stock recipe instead.

Of all the homemade fish stock recipes, you could choose from, why this one? Well this is definitely one of the easier ones, as well as taking less time to make. After throwing the ingredients into the pot, one at a time you should have your broth within 30 minutes. Just one word of caution though… do not use oily fish such as salmon for making your stock.

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Heat up the olive oil in your stock pot.

Step 2.

Add the peppercorns, bay leaves as well garlic as garlic and ‘cook’ for 30 seconds.

Step 3.

Next add the green onions and leeks and fry for half a minute.

Step 4.

In goes the carrot and let it cook for about 2 minutes.

Step 5.

Throw in the fish you will be using to make the broth and cook for a few minutes

Step 6.

Add the parsely, season with salt and pour in the water.

Step 7.

Cover your stock pot with a lid, and bring it to boil on high heat.

Step 8.

When the stock starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and leave it to simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 9.

Use a strainer to strain the broth.

Step 10.

Store in an air tight container, until you need to use it.

That’s all there is to it. You can have your broth ready in less than half an hour. It is recommended that you use fish carcasses, that includes the heads and anything else that would be thrown away when filleting the fish. You can also throw in some shrimp heads and they will help enhance the flavor. Try not over boil, your broth. You want it just right! Enjoy! 🙂
