Downtown Abbey Christmas Pudding Recipe

I don’t remember the last time I made a recipe with such a long list of ingredients, but yeah I think I am as ready as I would ever be. Just like the spiced Christmas jam this is no ordinary pudding. You will fully understand why as we dig deep down further into this downtown abbey Christmas pudding recipe.

I haven’t really done any further research into whether they are any easier Christmas pudding recipes out there. However, as complicated as this traditional one is, I am almost certain that someone has found a way to make a simpler version of it. So ideally this pudding should be made at least 3 months ahead of time, so we are talking around the mid Fall. When all is said and done there should be enough pudding for 8 to 10 servings.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

After taking the time to prep all your ingredients as per the recipe instructions, you are ready to start mixing all the dry ingredients in the bowl. The eggs, Guinness and brandy are whisked together in a separate bowl and then folded into the dry ingredients mixture. Oh I forgot to mention this has to be done the night before, so you can leave it to ‘marinate’ overnight.

The next day there is a whole specific set of instructions for setting up the pudding in the pan. That is followed by the 8 hour simmering marathon. Just before serving there is an additional 2 hour steaming session and there is also the whole lighting up ceremony that has to be performed. In addition to all of that you still have to make the butter hard sauce.
