Copycat Sweet Onion Sauce Recipe

In my teens, this was really the only reason why I ever went to Subway. Uh huh, not for the sandwiches, but for their yummy sauce. You can imagine my excitement when I ran into this copycat sweet onion sauce recipe. So just for today, I want you to forget the homemade soy sauce recipe, the homemade cocktail sauce recipe or even the homemade chimichurri sauce recipe I have already shared in earlier blog posts.

From my experience though, about 70% of all copycat sauce recipes almost always miss the mark. Having said that, I think this one lies within the outliers, the 30% which turn out very similar to the original. Although it comes with a long list of ingredients, they are actually all readily available in any pantry. I tried using the grater once for the fresh onion juice, but that sauce ended up tasting a little funky. LOL! This is definitely my kind of recipe, with the cook time clocking in at less than 10 minutes of my busy day.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

The only ingredient that will need prepping is what I like to call the ‘secret ingredient’. Use your garlic press to make your fresh onion juice. When that is ready, you simply dump all the ingredients one by one into the pot and bring them to a boil over medium heat. The next step is the thickening process, which requires low heat as you stir the sauce for a few minutes. When the sauce has thickened, let it sit in your fridge overnight before indulging! 🙂
