DIY Swinging Treat Holder For Chickens

It is no secret that the chickens love their treats. I have made everything for them from the homemade frozen corn chicken treats, to the homemade suet cakes for chickens and even the hanging cabbage for chickens. Although some of these are easier to give to the girls, others are not. In which case, you may need to use this diy swinging treat holder for chickens.

I promise you that chicken boredom, is real. I have seen it with my own eyes. Thank God that with a simple and affordable contraption like this one, you can help eliminate this problem. You can also re-purpose some old things around the homestead, otherwise make a quick run to your dollar store to grab everything you need. Setup takes about 10 minutes or so.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • hanging fruit or vegetable basket
  • disposable pie pans
  • wire or string

We had an old fruit basket, that had done its time and that is what I used for this projects. I also found a few used pie pans, that fitted perfectly into this basket. With a little bends, here and there the treat holder was ready for a try run. Be careful not to hang it too high, or your chickens will not be able to easily access the treats.

You may need to add wire or string in order to lower the holder, especially if you have a coop with a high roof. For an outside location, then an extra stand may have to be erected to support the basket. Alternatively, you could just attach it to the lower branches of a tree. Now you can easily offer smaller grains and treats to your girls. 🙂
