DIY Hanging Pumpkin For Chickens

Just like any young kids, chickens loooove their treats. Recently, I have been trying to only give them healthy treats like the diy homemade dried tomato chicken treats, the diy chicken seed roll treat and the diy hanging cabbage for chickens. Another take on the cabbage one, would be this diy hanging pumpkin treat for your chickens.

When it comes to healthy treats for your chickens, the more variety you have available the better. Although sometimes, I take the time to make some in the kitchen, I prefer this type of treat. A little drilling here, a little hanging there and boom you are good to go. I think my girls like the hanging pumpkin more than the hanging cabbage, but I still give them both.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

I would not recommend that you use a heavy pumpkin for obvious reasons. Especially since you will be hanging the pumpkin from the stem. Also make sure you use twine that can support the weight of the chosen pumpkin.

Instead of the serrated kitchen knife, try a hand saw. You will be able to remove larger chunks and therefore speed up the process. Just make sure that you do not saw too deep into the pumpkin’s flesh. Leave some seeds exposed, so the girls can get a peak of what is inside.
