When almost every room in your house needs a rug, the ‘buying’ option can become quite expensive. Just like when I shared diy old towel bath mats into and diy t-shirt tote bags into something, a little creativity can easily help you save some money. In today’s post we are going to be looking at how to make a braided rug out of old t-shirts.
These diy old t-shirt projects can be a lot of fun. Generally, I really enjoy upcycling or repurposing stuff around the homestead. The number of t-shirts you use, will determine the size of your rug. For example, 6 large t-shirts can make a rug that is slightly larger than 18 inches in diameter. The more t-shirts you use the bigger the rug is going to be. Unless, you have a few helping hands, this project is going to eat up a quite huge chunk of your time. Be patient, it is all going to be worth it when you lay down your finished rug.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- old t-shirts
- scissors
- needle
- thread
- sewing machine (optional)
- chalk
- office clip or a chip clip
After selecting the t-shirts to use for this project, you’ll need to cut them all into yarn. Only then can you begin the braiding process, where you have the option of either sewing your transitions or just knotting the yarn. Obviously, you probably won’t be able braid the rug in one go, an office clip or a chip clip can be used to secure the braid. When the braiding is done, the braids are coiled up to form the rug and then hand sewn together to keep everything place. In reality, there’s only 5 steps, however they are time consuming! LOL
