DIY Mason Jar Canisters

It is time to save the world, one upcycling project at a time. Yes, instead of throwing a lot of the stuff we use, it takes just a few creative minds to come up with other things we could make using our old ‘stuff’. I think we have looked at diy plastic bottle food canisters before, which have saved me a lot of space in my pantry. Today’s post is on these diy mason jar canisters, that you can use for storage too.

I know some people already upcycle their old jars and use them to store various things around the house. This project goes a little further, in actually turning those jars into beautiful canisters, that you may even give away as gifts to family and friends. The materials required for this project (besides the jars of course) are nothing out of the ordinary. You can easily pick any of these up online or from a crafts store.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • glass jars
  • acrylic paint
  • paint brush
  • hot glue gun
  • one glue stick
  • cabinet knob
  • school glue or mod podge (optional)

As with all projects that involve jars, you have to make sure you give your jars a really good wash before getting started. Ahhh, then there is the annoying task of removing the labels, some of them are just a pain to remove. I usually just dip the jars in ahot water, and then it becomes easier to pull away the label. You could also just use jars with easy to remove labels, the ones that just slip off.

Yeah, I know the painted lids make the jars look prettier. However, I am not going to freak out if I do not have any paint left. I made a few jars with the original lids, and they still look cute too. Same with the hot glue, you could just use a screw to attach the knob on the lid, by drilling a hole in the center of the lid and attaching it with a screw. I think the main idea, is to try use whatever you have available, which is what I always do.
