DIY Plastic Tote Duck Nesting Boxes

Isn’t it funny how ducks will pretty much lay their eggs, anywhere? Yes, I found this very amusing when we first introduced ducks to the homestead. Since I have already shown you how to build this diy old tire nesting box and this diy easy clean chicken nesting box for your chickens. I thought why not give the ducks their turn today by making these diy plastic tote duck nesting boxes?

When you dive into the world of plastic tote diy projects, most of them are simple and straight forward. This one is no exception, plus as far as materials are concerned you only need a large tote. Ducks seem to prefer a private environment when nesting, therefore make sure you use a dark tote for this project. It may also be a great way to repurpose an old cracked or leaking tote that you may have stored away in your shed.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

The main benefit of using the plastic tote is that you do not have to build the structure. You’ll just need to mark the opening for the entrance and then cut it out. If you find the edges too sharp, sanding them down may help or you can use the duct tape idea. For the bedding inside, use the hay. It may take a few days for the ducks to get used to having this new structure in their pen and to start laying their eggs in the box, just be patient with them.
