Here’s is something to help you calm that annoying cough. When I first made these homemade black cherry cough drops, I really didn’t expect them to work as well as they did. Now whenever the cough comes along I take one every couple of hours in addition to the homemade cough remedy recipe and the homemade fire cider recipe that we made in previous posts.
There are indeed quite a few different options when it comes to homemade cough remedies. I prefer these drops, because they can be taken throughout the day without much effort. Since your immune system will need a little boosting when you are under the weather, this recipe has kindly incorporated elderberries as well as honey. If possible, use the smaller molds you can easily make up to 64 cough drops per batch.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- butter (divided)
- black cherry bark
- dried elderberries
- filtered water
- honey
- organic sugar
- cherry liquor or natural cherry extract
- silicone candy molds
- candy thermometer
- saucepan
- strainer
- ladle
- parchment paper
- glass jar
Before you begin, prep the molds by greasing them with the butter. Initially simmer the water, bark and the elderberries over low heat for about half an hour. After allowing the contents to cool down to room temperature the herbs are strained out. There will be more simmering before the rest of the ingredients can be added. The boiling to achieve the hard crack stage is the penultimate process. When stored in a glass jar in a cool, dry place these drops can last up to 24 months.
