DIY Wooden Bow Ties

I decided today I would steer away from homestead diy projects and try do something fashionable and fun instead. Remember other such projects as the diy towel beach bag and the diy marble coasters. I have seen a lot of these diy wooden bow ties on Pinterest lately. Something tells me that they are trending in the fashion world.

Since we always have some scrap wood lying around here, I figured it would not cost too much to make these. Sometimes you just want a stress relieving activity to steer your mind away from your daily struggles. This is one of those projects, after you are done you can give away the bow ties as gifts to your family and friends.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • wood
  • fabric
  • elastic bands
  • velcro
  • stain or sealer
  • rag or paint brush
  • wood adhesive
  • fabric adhesive or thread
  • band saw or jig saw
  • bow tie template
  • sander
  • clamp
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • straight edge or ruler

The templates will help you make the perfect size bow ties, all you have to do is cut out the pattern and trace it over a piece of wood. The next step requires real stable hands, as you use the jigsaw to cut out the bow tie from the wood.

Make sure you clean off any dust before you stain your wood. The middle section of the wooden bow tie is where you will attach the fabric, for tying it. This section should be left untreated when sealing or staining the bow tie. With a few more nip, tucks and folds your bow tie will be ready! 🙂
