DIY Upside Down Tomato Pot

Of late, I really haven’t been posting ideas for those of us who may have limited space for gardening. In the past I have shared a whole bunch of good ideas such as this diy vertical clay pot garde and this diy upside down tomato planter. You know that when I find myself at fault, I usually try my best to remedy the situation. This is why today I have decided to share this diy upside down tomato pot, with you guys.

Besides the fact that a planter hanging upside down, looks really cool there are many other benefits associated with using this set up. For one, you know tomato plants need some sort of trellis or support when grown the right way up. Well when you grow them upside down, you eliminate the need for a trellis or cage as they just hang down. This is not a complicated project at all, you can have one of these planters set up in less than 30 minutes.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Wrap wire or rope around the lip of your planter
and then attach a coat hanger to either side.

Step 2.

Carefully insert the root ball of the tomato plant
through the drainage hole and hold in place.

Step 3.

Fill up the pot with potting soil, making sure to firm
it up around the root ball, in order to provide support.

Step 4.

Add a thin layer of vermilucite, right at the top.

Step 5.

Hang up and water your planter.

You will notice as the plant grows, the roots will grow upwards and the stalk will thicken to cover the drainage hole. Keep your plant well fertilized and watered. Also keep an eye out for the common pests and diseases, just because it is hanging upside down does not mean it becomes resistant too. You may want to set up at least two of these planters to ensure, you have your fresh tomato needs covered all summer long. Happy upside down gardening! 🙂
