Although gardening is a whole lot of fun, there are a few tasks like sowing seeds and watering that can be tedious and annoying. That is why I have built solutions like the diy handheld seed sower tool and the diy plastic bottle drip irrigation, just to try take care of with these. This diy hand held corn and bean planter could also be very handy in your garden.
There are indeed many diy planter ideas out there, some more complicated and expensive than others. This particular one is not only easy to make it is also very affordable. You can make one from left over pvc pipe and a few re-purposed stuff from in and around your homestead. Not only will this make planting your seeds easier, it will also help you get your plant spacing right.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- ½” PVC pipe
- PVC glue
- PVC elbow
- inline-T fittings
- end caps
- old broom handle
- handheld drill
- long narrow bolt
- nuts and washers
- small tin can
- hacksaw
- miter saw (optional)
- tape measure
- marker
The main structure is made out of PVC piping. Measure and mark your desired height on the pipe and then go ahead and cut it. The handle will go a few inches below the top. The seed spacer which also works as a hole spacer is about 6 inches from the ground. Simply cut off a section from an old broom handle to make the hole poker.
The plug is held in place by a narrow bolt that is drilled into the wood and the pipe. This bolt will also act as your depth gauge, to help you plant your seeds at the correct depth. The small tip is duct taped to the pvc pipe at a convenient height and will be used as the seed container. That’s all there is to this nifty tool!
