What do you do when you do not have easy access to the real thing? You make your own at home of course! That is exactly what we have been doing with the homemade krispy kreme donots and the copycat olive garden salad dressing recipe. My sister came to visit us last month and before she left she taught me how to make this KFC coleslaw copycat recipe.
As far as copycat recipes go, this is one of the best ones. The main difference between this coleslaw and the one most of us make at home is the tangy sauce, that they use. Although, unlike other recipes, this particular one does not require buttermilk. It is not one of the ingredients, that is listed to be in the ‘original’ coleslaw. I have to admit though, that the amount of sugar required, is a bit concerning, feel free to adjust the amounts as you see fit.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3/4 cups chopped cabbage
- 1 large carrot
- food processor
- mixing bowl
- large spoon
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1.
Add the mayo, sugar, apple cider vinegar,
onion powder, salt and pepper to the bowl.
Step 2.
Mix everything together and
set the bowl in your fridge.
Step 3.
Cut the core out of your cabbage and chop it.
Step 4.
Chop up the carrot in the food processor.
Step 5.
Add the carrots and the cabbage to the
dressing and mix well in the bowl.
It is recommended that you make the dressing for the coleslaw at least 24 hours before adding the carrots and the cabbage. This will ensure that you have the best flavor. If you do not have a food processor, you can use a grater to ‘chop’ your carrots and cabbage. Remember, unlike the KFC version, this one does not have any preservatives so make sure you store it in your fridge and enjoy it within a few days.
