DIY Plastic Bucket Goat Grain Feeder

Bring out the plastic buckets, we have a simple diy project for you today. Having already featured many different goat hay feeders such as the diy garbage can goat feeder and the diy wood pallet goat feeder, it was time to add one for grains. After some quick on the internet I found this diy goat grain feeders made from plastic buckets.

There was another diy automatic grain feeder idea, that I considered. However, after remembering that the goats only required limited amounts of grain about 1 to 2 lbs a day, I decided to go the manual route. Maybe at a later date we will upgrade, to the ‘fancier’ self refilling solution. Otherwise, you only need a few other common materials besides the bucket to setup one of these.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
  • cinder blocks
  • utility knife
  • tape measure
  • marker
  • wire

Step By Step Instructions:

Step 1.

Measure and mark the feeder opening which should
be 3 inches from the bottom of the bucket, 8 inches
high and take up the whole front section of the bucket.

Step 2.

Cut out the marked area using the utility knife.

Step 3.

Attach the bucket to the goat fence using wire
at a height that your with your goats reach.

Step 4.

Place a cinder block directly below each feeder,
the goats will use this as a step to reach the feeder.

Step 5.

Add the grains to the feeder.

Remember, goats do not need large amounts of grains, therefore there is no need to add grains that over flow from the feeder at any one time. By limiting the amount of grain feed, you can help promote the health of your goats and avoid over feeding. Maybe just add grain to the feeder once a day, just to be on the safe side.
