Do you remember when the ‘Great Pandemic’ of our time first started, there was a shortage of toilet paper? That was about the time I discovered this method on how to make toilet paper from recycled paper. If you’ve enjoyed previous projects on this blog such as the diy wood slat doormat and the diy reusable microwave popcorn bags, this one should be lots of fun too.
It is wise to have a couple of these survival diy projects at your disposal. Whilst the rest of the world is in panic mode, you can just switch to your survival skills. Apparently you can also use wood shaving instead of newspapers for this project. However, I prefer to just stick to either old newspapers or any other waste paper, except for cardboard. For the weights, bricks, rocks, iron tools or even logs should work. As with any new skill, practice makes perfect, start with a small batch to get familiar with the whole process.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- old newspapers
- 5 gallon plastic bucket
- scissors
- water
- handheld drill and paint mixer.
- slotted ladle or large slotted spoon
- flat plywood boards
- weights
- fabric
- bleach (optional)
The first thing you want to do is strip your newspaper into small pieces. What I do is hold the newspaper over the bucket and just snip away at it with scissors. The paper is then allowed to soak for at least 2 hours after which it is then pulverized. I usually skip the bleaching step and go straight to laying and pressing the pulp over the fabric. After being satisfied with the thickness of the layers, it is time to dry the toilet paper. Once it is dry, all that’s left to do, is to cut it into usable sheets.
