It seems that when I first started this blog, I covered most of the plants that you can grow in your garden. This is why nowadays you are seeing more posts covering different herbs such as how to grow cardamon and how to grow chervil. In today’s post we shall be looking at how to grow fenugreek in your garden.
Did you know that Trigonella foenum-graecum is also grown for its medicinal benefits, including the treatment of diabetes? It’s origins can be traced back for centuries to the Indian subcontinent. If you are looking at companion plants then you can choose from beans, buckwheat or even crowder peas. If you live in the colder climates, you probably can only grow it in your greenhouse. This is because it really does not do well when exposed to frost or the colder temperatures.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- fenugreek seeds
- organic fertilizer
- gardening tools
The best location in your garden would be one with well drained soil, that receives full to partial afternoon sun. You can start planting in late spring, just direct sow the seeds into the ground. Your in row spacing should be about 2 inches and your row spacing about 5 inches apart.
Mix in the organic fertilizer into the soil before planting for optimum results. Also keep an eye out for aphids, slugs and snails. However, usually you should not have any issues with pests or diseases. Harvesting is as simple as mowing down the plants or alternatively you can pull them up and out of the ground to collect the seeds.
