Every kitchen needs a wooden spoon for cooking, that is the truth of matter. I have not really made anything really useful lately, if you look at the diy glass bottle vase and the diy beer bottle glasses project. Those where more like ‘fun’ projects. However I think something like learning how to carve wooden spoons, is a skill that could become very useful in the future.
You will be happy to know that the carving process is not rocket science at all. All you need is the right tools and a lot of patience. Apparently this is one of those skills that you get better with time and practice. With that said, don’t be hard on yourself if your first spoon is not as perfect as you would like it to be. I made my first spoon this past weekend, it definetely was not one of my best works of art. LOL

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- piece of wood
- sand paper
- spoon gouge
- roughing knife
- hook knife (optional)
- clamps
The type of spoon you are making will determine the type of wood you are going to use, especially if you are planning to use the spoon in the kitchen. Until I fine tune my skills, I will not be making any ‘gift’ spoons. These you can just use whichever type of wood you feel like. Since in this case, it is the look that counts and not the durabilty.
