We’ve just experienced a huge snowfall and some extremely cold weather over the past few days. Naturally that had my mind thinking more about heat sources, than any other thing many hours of the day. Traditionally we have used our diy tire rim wood stove or this diy foil solar heater for windows. However, you know that I am always looking for viable alternative solutions and that is exactly how I discovered this diy flower pot heater.
Are you familiar with diy flower pot projects? Sadly most gardeners only use their pots for gardening, not knowing that these clay pots have plenty of other uses. There is an older version of this same heater idea, which does not include the stand and has the candles sitting in a bread tin. The reason for the upgrade to this version was because the tin often over heated and also this newer version has an easily adjustable base for different size candles. It costs about 4 cents an hour to heat your home using this new design.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- tea light candles
- 6″ clay pot with base
- 5″ clay pot
- chain
- 1/2″ hex nuts
- 1/2″ flat washer
- 1/2″ thread rod
- tape measure
- marker
- hacksaw
- hand file
- handheld drill
- 1/2″ hole saw bit
- stand
Begin by measuring and cutting your rod, you want two pieces 11″ long each. The cut ends usually ends up being a bit sharp, therefore take a few minutes to file it down. When assembling your heater start with two nuts at one end of the rod, screw them in about an inch down. The chain comes next, you want to loop it through the rod and then attach it using another nut. Now you are ready to start attaching the flower pots.
You start off with the big pot which goes on the outside. Then you add the smaller pot inside and screw in both pots using the nuts and washers. Once the pots are secured onto the rod you can then start screwing on the heat capturing nuts and washers inside the smaller pot. The base which holds your candles, is the last to be attached to the bottom of the metal rod. Now you either need to make a stand, find one you can use around the house or just use a shelf.
