It has been a while since we talked about dutch ovens on this blog. I think the last time was when we looked at how to bake pie in a dutch oven or was it how to bake in a dutch oven? I don’t remember anymore, that’s how long it has been. LOL! Anywho, I still love using my dutch oven and today I realized that I still hadn’t shared this diy dutch oven stand that I use regularly, with you guys.
Of all the dutch oven accessories I currently use, this is probably the most useful one. Not only is it a dutch oven stand, it can also double as a grill if you sit another grate on top of it. The detachable long legs allow it to be portable and if you stick to the recommended rim size, you should be able to cook with any size dutch oven sitting inside. I am certainly not a jack of all trades, that’s why I had my lovely husband do all the welding. He’s such a darling, ain’t he? grin

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 15″ old tire rim
- 1 3/8″ metal pipe
- 1 1/4″ metal pipe
- welding machine
- circular saw or reciprocating saw
- metal cutting blade
- metal grate
- tape measure
- hacksaw
- marker
- sand paper (optional)
Before you begin this project take time to measure and cut out the legs. The short legs which will be welded to the bottom of the tire rim are about 6 inches in length. You’ll need 3 of those. The longer legs are cut from the thicker pipe, they should be about 24 inches long and should be able to easily slide into the shorter legs.
The inner grate which holds the charcoal or the briquettes is cut and and welded inside the rim. For all your cuts make sure you use a metal cutting blade on your power tools, that is if you are not using a hacksaw. It’s not really necessary but I sanded down the cut edges to smoothen them and hopefully prevent any accidental cuts from sharp edges.
