After all the years I have spent in the kitchen, I have now learnt all things baked can also be fried and vice versa. You can make this using apple pie filling, to make your mini apple pies in the oven. Or just like the frying recipe, you can try this fried apple pies recipe instead.
Most of us tend to shy away from fried recipes, as we have been told by our health experts that they are not good for us. Which is true, the only problem is that sometimes your taste buds are calling for fried chicken, and not baked chicken. LOL. If you have an electric fryer you can use that for making these, otherwise the ole school stove top and pan will work just as well. Excluding the 20 minutes chill time, it should take you about half an hour to fry your pies.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- puff pastry sheets
- Granny Smith apples
- brown sugar
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- cloves
- butter
- cornstarch
- granulated sugar
- caramel sauce (optional)
- cooking oil
- apple corer
- apple peeler
- baking sheet
- parchment paper
- large pan
The prep work for this recipe can take some time. You will wash your apples, peel them, core them and then dice them. Also prep your puff pastry on the baking sheet as instructed. In the pan you can simmer the cloves, cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg and the apples. When apples are tender you can add the butter.
The whisked cornstarch and water mixture goes in next and you leave that to thicken. Your filling is ready now, you can then spoon it onto the puff pastry, and then fold the edges to seal the pies. A fork works well for crimping the edges. Don’t skip the chilling stage, before you fry your pies in the oil. ‘Season’ with the sugar and cinnamon as you remove from the oil.
