I think it has been mentioned before, but I shall say it yet again. I think my girls ‘chickens’ are the most spoiled of all the livestock on the homestead. Over the years I have tried different coop designs, like this diy garden shed chicken coop does not have any outdoor space for them to roam. In which case, you would need something like this diy pallet chicken coop extension to save the day.
As we all know, pallets are the perfect diy project material as most of the time they area available for free. In this case, instead of erecting an actual fence around the coop we can use this. I love the idea of being able to plant herbs and other small greens on the top of the pallets as well as around the base of the extension.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- wood pallets
- 4′ x 4′ posts
- screws
- drill gun
- measuring tape
- level
- string
- cordless drill
- PVC pipe (optional)
- post hole digger (optional)
If the area is not cleared, that is the first thing you should do. Once you determine the area and measure it out the pallets should be measured to help you fit all the pallets. Some pallets may need to be cut in order to work with your design. The location of the gate and its size should also be considered.
Lay out your pallets in place, and then connect them together using screws. Generally there should be a post for every two pallets, to make your extension sturdy. For the gate, you can start with a temporary solution. If there are spaces on the bottom that your chickens can escape through, just block them off with plywood.
