When the dogs heat out to play, we’d all prefer that they didn’t bring back any ticks. In reality, when they return you have to spend a few minutes of your precious time doing a quick tick inspection. Remember the diy toothpaste for dogs and the diy homemade dog shampoo, I shared in previous posts? Well, today I would like to show you how you can easily make your own diy tick repellent for your dogs.
This all natural homemade solution for your dogs is not only easy to make, but it is also harsh chemicals and pesticide free. You’ll need 3 ingredients that are readily available in any kitchen. I am familiar with other repellents that have essential oils, but I’ve read different ‘horror’ stories on the use of these oils on your pets, therefore I prefer this one. It’s the acidity that is present in the apple cider vinegar, that helps naturally repel biting insects. In addition to repelling ticks, this solution also does a wonderful job at keeping those pesky fleas away.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup warm water
- spray bottle
- funnel
- medium bowl or container
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1.
Mix all the ingredients in a medium bowl or container.
Step 2.
Use a funnel to transfer the contents of the bowl to your spray bottle.
Step 3.
Shake well and spray your dogs before they head outside.
Always remember to shake the bottle well, before spraying your dogs. Also, it is recommended that you comb it through their fur after spraying. If you have more than one dog that needs to sprayed, it is probably wiser to make more repellent by doubling or tripling the ingredients. This pesticide and chemical free solution is not foolproof, make it a habit to still check your dogs for ticks when they return from playing outside, especially during summer.
