Whether you like it or not, at some point your are going to have to kneel or bend over in your garden. LOL! I know it sucks, right? Well, just like the Girl Guides motto… you must always ‘be prepared’. In earlier posts, I shared this diy tiered plastic bucket raised garden and diy raised planter stand, all in an effort to spare your back. This diy garden kneel pad is the perfect solution for those kneeling sessions.
I surely hope that you’re enjoying this latest series on gardening hacks. Although this one involves a lot of sewing, the focus is still the gardening. This pattern uses old clothes and towels for the fill material, which is a great way to re-purpose them and save some money. However, there is nothing stopping you from investing in some cushion foam, for a little bit of extra comfort if you can afford to do so. After all, it’s your knees we are trying to protect here, right?
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- oilcloth
- 3/4″ hook and loop
- 2″ vinyl webbing
- old towels or clothes
- coordinating thread
- velcro
- sewing clips
- scissors
- rotary cutter
- cutting mat
- sewing machine
The first thing that needs to be done is to measure and cut the oilcloth as per the pattern instructions. Then you can move on to cutting as well as sewing on the hook and loop. Next, there will be a lot of clipping and sewing starting from the bottom of the pad working your way up. I would recommend that you recruit an extra pair of hands or two to clip the old clothes or towels into smaller pieces for the fill material, whilst you’re busy with the sewing.
