What makes gardening a little more exciting for me, is the simple fact you can sometimes build things for your garden. Just a few weeks back I showed you how to build his diy tiered raised garden bed, before that it was this diy raised plastic bucket garden bed . I also recently discovered this diy tiered plastic bucket raised garden, which is an upgrade to the previous one.
We shouldn’t shy away from these diy gardening ideas, as they usually tend to enhance your gardening. This project is not complicated at all, it is basically just a frame or stand with buckets sitting inside it. You can salvage lumber leftover from other projects or visit your local hardware store for supplies. If you can find a restaurant or somewhere else to get the buckets for free, that will save you some money too. Just wash them thoroughly, before use.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- lumber
- 5 gallon plastic buckets
- wood screws
- corner braces
- tape measure
- marker
- jig saw
- miter saw
- cordless drill
- potting soil
I could not find the plans for this raised garden bed, therefore I am just going to be commenting off the top of my head. I would start with the construction of the frame for the bottom level and then work my way up. Instead of having just four buckets, you can add more in each row depending on how much growing space you need. Just line up your buckets and then use your tape measure to figure out how long you need your frame to be.
Make sure that the space in between the buckets, is just enough to fit the bucket through to lid level and that it sits comfortably on the frame without slipping through. Also reinforce the joints with brackets for a steady and durable structure. Don’t forget to punch a few holes in your buckets to allow for drainage. Consider staining the wood, especially if the garden is going to be sitting outside, exposed to the elements.
