There are some things in life, that you may think you don’t actually need until you actually start using them. If I recall correctly we have looked at making this diy PVC cover for raised garden beds and this diy retractable PVC hoop house in earlier posts on this blog. Nevertheless, today I would like us to take a look at this diy raised garden bed cover project.
With the many diy garden bed cover designs available on the internet, you can pretty much find one to fit your needs. This one is perfect for those beds that have a wall or some other structure protecting the other side. These plans were drawn up for a 3′ by 6′ garden bed, but you can easily make some adjustments to cover any size of garden bed. This type of cover is perfect for protecting your vegetables from small animals such as squirrels, raccoons & rabbits.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- exterior grade wood board
- chicken wire
- miter saw
- 1/2″ spade bit and drill
- wire cutter
- 1/2″ exterior screws
- staple gun
- stainless steel staples
- brass hinges
- brass barrel bolt
- tape measure
- marker
Use the provided plans to measure and cut your boards for the frame as well as the braces. When building the main frame it is recommended that you use pilot holes, or you risk splitting the wood. The chicken wire is attached to the frame using the staples, after which you can then install the hinges as well as the barrel bolts. You can choose to use screws to attach the cover to your beds or you can just sit the cover on top of the bed itself, it should stay in place.
