As the warm days and nights of the summer months are fast approaching, we have already started thinking about how we are going to be enjoying them this year. We already have the diy cable spool bbq table in place, the diy 55 gallon drum smoker and the diy outdoor pallet outdoor bar. I found this diy backyard bowling alley idea online yesterday, and I have been giddy with excitement ever since.
I even spent a few hours even googling more homemade bowling alley designs, just make to make sure that I had the perfect one for our backyard. It is going to take quite a bit of wood panels and plywood, but thankfully we have quite a bit leftover from other projects. If I can’t find a cheap set of bowling pins, I probably will end up using plastic soda bottles in the meantime.
- 2 x 4 panels and plywood
- woods for the lane
- bowling pins
- strings
- handheld drill
- wood screws
- neon lights
- bowling bowls
- tape measure
- wood stain (optional)
When you are building a house or any other structure you need a strong foundation, right? Well for the bowling alley you are going to need a strong base which you can build using the 2×4 panels. Your personal preference as well as how much space you have in your backyard, will determine the length of your alley.
A pulley system can be set up to save you the hassle of having to set up the pins every time you knock them down. Instead you just tug on the rope and the pins are reset. Make sure that your alley is as smooth as possible. Feel free to either apply few layers of wood stains or attach some plywood boards. This no doubt will provide hours of fun, for your family! Have fun! 🙂
