DIY Simple Outdoor Bench

Most of the ‘outdoor’ benches or chairs we have built in the past have been for the patio. Remember the diy wood pallet bench and the diy wood pallet sofa? Well today I thought we could take a look at this diy simple outdoor bench, which you can place in your backyard or even the woods.

I love this project because it is very simple and does not require any complicated tools. If you have played with LEGO blocks as a child, this is similar. The only difference is this time you will be using concrete cinder blocks, which can be quite heavy. I got the hubby to haul these for me.

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • cinder blocks
  • 4×4 wood posts
  • drop cloth
  • concrete adhesive
  • caulking gun
  • wet cloth
  • exterior paint
  • paint brush
  • saw horses
  • grit sandpaper
  • wood stainer
  • exterior cushions

It is best to build this bench on site, it will not be easy to move it after it is set up. Stack four blocks on each side and use the concrete adhesive to glue them together lengthwise. Then you will take two blocks and glue them on top of the four blocks which should be standing upright.

One more block which holds the back posts will glued upright on top of half of the second layer of blocks. If you are painting your blocks this would be the perfect time to do so. Sand, smooth and seal your blocks before you assemble everything together. Two 4x4s for the back support and four will make up the seat. We didn’t add any cushions, but feel free to do so.
