Most of the plants that we grow in our garden are either transplanted seedlings or seeds directly into the garden beds. We are currently growing peas , green peas as well as purple hull peas successfully. I have just completed research on how to grow sugar snap peas which I found rather interesting.
For starters, they recommend that you pre-sprout the seeds in order to increase your germination rate. This also drastically reduces the amount of seeds that will rot under the soil, simply because you only transplant seedlings to the soil. I am still yet to experience, but this whole process is said to save you a lot of time and energy.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- sugar snap peas seeds
- compost
- organic fertilizer
- medium bowl
- paper towel
- ziploc bag or container
- trellis (optional)
- inoculant (optional)
Fill a bowl with water and then drop your peas in there. Grab a paper towel sheet and wet it before placing your peas in the middle. Carefully wrap your paper towel covering the seeds within. Store the folded paper towel in a ziploc bag or air tight container.
Perform daily checks to ensure the paper towel remains wet at all times.Within 3 to 4 days the peas should have sprouted. At this time you can then transplant the sprouts into the ground. It is also recommended that an inoculant is used during the planting process.
