This is one of those vegetables that always has space in my garden every single year. Today, I thought why not talk about growing green peas in your home garden.
Did you know the more you pick your green peas, the more green peas you will have to pick?
Apparently the snap style green peas are the best variety to grow, because they give you the best of both worlds. Not only do you get the sweet contents of English peas, you also get the crispy outer shell snow peas.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- green pea seeds
- mulch
- compost
- organic fertilizer
- trellis or stakes (optional)
You can plant green peas in the spring or the fall, however you always get a better spring harvest. Plant them 1 to 2 inches apart in early spring when it is still cool and damp. If you are going to use a trellis make sure you install one before planting.
Keep the area weed free and keep an eye out for aphids, fusarium wilt, powdery mildew and root-rot disease. Green peas are ready to harvest when the pod starts to fatten. Use fresh within hours or store in a Ziploc bag in your freezer for longer perios.
