Worry not, these do not require any snow for you to grow them. LOL. We have already successfully grown green peas and also grown sugar snap peas, in our garden over the years. So how much harder could it be to grow snow peas? That is the question I asked the hubby the other day.
First, it is important to understand the different types of peas, that are available. When it comes to snow peas these are generally grown for their edible pods. Their seeds usually never fills the pods and most people enjoy them in their tender stage. They tend to prefer the cooler temperatures, therefore grow them in late Spring or early Fall.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- snow peas seeds
- compost
- mulch
- organic fertilizer
- trellis
- containers (optional
You can plant the seeds directly into the ground or in containers. Just make sure that the soil temperature is above 80 degrees F. The plants will thrive in slightly alkaline, well drained soil and require as much as 8 hours of sunlight everyday. Plant your seeds in rows an inch deep and about 2 inches apart.
It is important that you water them with at least an inch of water weekly. I would recommend you apply some mulch to help conserve water and prevent weeds. Fertilizer is optional, but trellises are also recommended to boost production. The best time to harvest them is when the pods are between 2 to 3 inches, simply pinch the pods off the vines.
