DIY Simple Grey Water System

Water is a very important resource, we have to try by all means to conserve and reuse it. On our homestead we have built this diy gutterless rain barrel system and out in the garden we have this diy stand alone rain collector. This diy simple grey water system, is another great solution we are considering.

What exactly is grey water? Well it is that water that is left over after you do your laundry, dishes or take a bath. As long as you do not use detergents and soaps with harsh chemicals, you can reuse this water and use it to water your garden. You can easily setup this system using affordable and recycled materials within a few hours.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

The system itself requires two sections to function. The first section is found inside the home, it is basically the piping that redirects the grey water to the second section which is located outside the house. This is where the plastic barrel that will hold your grey water before it is distributed to your garden.

It is recommended that the barrel is elevated, in order to allow the water to flow to your garden using gravity. I like that you can just install a soaker hose in your garden, open the tap by the barrel and the garden will automatically water itself. Always try to save water, reuse as much of it as you possibly can, each and every day.
