How To Grow Bell Peppers From Peppers

As it may well be, normally when you think of planting something in your garden, you either head out to buy the seeds or perhaps order them online. However, as I’ve shown you before with the post on how to grow tomatoes from tomatoes and how to regrow romaine lettuce, there maybe an alternative way. In today’s post, you’ll discover how to grow bell peppers from bell peppers.

You know what, I really do enjoy growing vegetables from kitchen scraps. For me it’s more about how easy the process usually is than saving a few bucks on buying seeds. For best results, it is recommended that you use over ripe bell peppers because they harbor mature seeds. This method should work with all the different colored bell peppers, be it the green ones, the red ones or even the orange ones. Also, just one pepper should be enough to produce more seedlings for your garden, than you know what to do with.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Step By Step Instructions:

Step 1.

Cut the bell pepper in half and scrape out all the seeds.

Step 2.

Allow seeds to dry for at least 48 hours in full sunlight.

Step 3.

Fill your container with potting mix.

Step 4.

Sprinkle the seeds over the top of the potting mix, without overlapping the seeds.

Step 5.

Cover the seeds with a thin layer of potting mix, do not bury the seeds too deep.

Step 6.

Water gently with a small can, taking care not to disturb the sown seeds.

Place your container in a warm location, with partial shade. It will take anywhere from 6 to 21 days for the seeds to germinate. Only water to keep the potting mix moist at all times, avoid over watering and soggy potting mix. The seedlings should be ready for transplanting after about 30 days. You can either plant one seedling per small pot or transplant the seedlings to your garden. It is recommended that you plant them in rows 24 to 36 inches apart with spacing between the plants of 18 to 24 inches.
