How To Freeze Apples

I don’t believe I know of anyone who does not enjoy this fruit. We love them so much that we are growing apples outdoors in the backyard as well as indoors in a container. As a result we end up with way more fresh apples than we can consume. This is how I learnt how to freeze apples.

Since there are quite a few different apple varieties, you are probably wondering if this method works for all. Well, let me not say all, but definitely works for most of them. You will need 2 other ingredients for this preservation method. It is not a complicated process at all, you may just need a little help with coring and peeling the apples.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • fresh apples
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • medium bowl
  • ziploc bags
  • apple peeler or paring knife
  • waxed paper
  • baking sheet

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Wash and peel your apples in a circular motion.

Step 2.

Cut into quaters and remove the core and the seeds.

Step 3.

Cut the apples into slices.

Step 4.

Mix the sugar and water in the bowl and dump the apples in there to coat them.

Step 5.

Line the baking sheet with some wax paper and then layer your apples in one single layer.

Step 6.

Freeze overnight and then transfer to a ziploc bag in the morning.

Don’t forget to label your ziploc bag with the date, before returning the apples to the freezer. When you preserve your apples using this method, you can expect them to last up to 6 months. Instead of packing them all into one large bag, it maybe wiser to use smaller snack size bags. That way you you don’t have to keep on thawing and refreezing your apples every time you want to enjoy them.
