When you have plenty of goat milk than can be consumed by your loved one, you have to come up with ingenious ways of preserving it. You can only make so much homemade goat milk butter before you have way too much. Nowadays I have started making some homemade goat milk lotion with the surplus.
There are probably a lot more goat milk products you can make, but for this post we will be concentrating on the lotion. You have your choice of essential oils here, to add to the lotion for the scent you want. Instead of essential oils you could also try using infused oils or herbal teas. If you make smaller batches, you could probably leave out the optiphen.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- distilled water
- raw goat milk
- emulsifying wax
- oils
- coconut oil
- almond oil
- shea butter
- optiphen
- essential oils
- immersion blender
- stainless spoons
- kitchen scale
- measuring cup
- large pot
- jars, tins, or bottles
All the tools you will be using need to be sparkly clean, so I usually spend about 10 minutes scrubbing everything. Then I sit the pot on the stove turn it to medium heat and start making the lotion. First in is the almond oil, then the coconut oil and the shea butter. When melted you can then add the wax and melt that too.
Next up is the immersion blender, in goes the mixture from the pot, the water and the milk. Whip everything up for a good 5 minutes, then add the essential oils and the optiphen. Run the blender for another minute or so before scooping everything out into a jar. That’s it you are done, you have just made goat milk lotion. Yay!
