Homemade Brownie Mix Recipe

I remember my little stint as a Girl Guide, and we had to sell a whole bunch of cookies and brownies as part of our fund raising efforts. Just like with the homemade bisquick mix, we soon realized that making this homemade brownie mix recipe before hand was the fastest way to churn out those brownies.

The advantage of making the mix is that you can whip up a huge batch and then just use whatever you need whenever you need to make some brownies. That should in turn save you a lot of time. The recipe for the mix calls for 6 dry ingredients, that are readily available in most kitchens. The best part is, as with most homemade recipes, this actually tastes way better than the store version.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 8 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups cocoa
  • 2 cups shortening
  • mixer or mixing bowl
  • air tight container

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Mix all the dry ingredients together
except for the shortening.

Step 2.

Slowly work in the shortening.

Step 3.

Store in a cool dry place.

The texture of the mix should be crumbly, and you can store it in an air tight container for up to 6 weeks. Essentially this recipe makes enough mix for you to bake at least 6 batches of brownies in an 8×8″ baking dish.

How To Make Your Brownies? In a mixing bowl or mixer, mix 3 cups of the brownie mix, 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla and 3 eggs together. When everything is blended, you can add a cup of nuts too. Transfer to the baking dish and allow to bake for up to 40 minutes at 350 degrees F. Enjoy your brownies! 🙂
