Homemade Barrel Chicken Drinker

The funny thing is that I have previously shared a few different solutions as far as chicken waterers are concerned. Remember the diy PVC soda bottle chicken waterer and the diy chicken nipple waterer? Just the other day I ran into yet another great idea for making a homemade chicken drinker.

Although they used an old home-brew pressure barrel, you can build this using any sturdy barrel. if you can get ahold of old barrels and re-use them that would save you on the cost of this project. This project should take about 30 minutes to complete and not more than $5 in total costs.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • old home-brew pressure barrel
  • nut
  • penny washers
  • tap washer
  • hose kit
  • hand drill
  • copper plumbing plug
  • rubber washers
  • small plastic tub

If you are using the old home-brew pressure barrel, then you will need to first remove the CO2 injector and seal the hole. Then you can remove the tap on the bottom and install copper plumbing plug which will act as the water outlet.

The small tub is installed next, with rubber washers used to seal both the inside and the outside. If possible you should try use a black barrel to prevent algae from growing since this type of waterer can last for weeks before being refilled.
