DIY Berry Picker

One of the activities we love doing as a family is going out in the woods and foraging for wild fruits. We actually learn a lot and take pictures of stuff we come across, that we may not be familiar with. I saw this diy berry picker idea online, which is going to make things a lot easier when we go out next.

This is another one of those projects that allows you to run around the homestead and use whatever you can find, that will do a similar job. Fortunately we have an old garden rake in the shed, and I have some wine crates that I did not use for the diy wine box garden beds. Ultimately, it means that we wont be forking out too much if any money for this one. Yaaaay!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • mini wine crate
  • garden rake
  • plywood
  • wood glue
  • nails
  • paint
  • palm chisel
  • hacksaw
  • fine sand paper
  • carpentry nails (optional)
  • knitting kneedles (optional)

As with wood pallet projects, this one requires you to disassemble the wine crate and then use it to create the catcher. He recommends that you use your own measurements depending on the materials you have available. I made it easier for myself, by just using the same as he does, less headaches.

The handle comes next, before making the comb from the garden rake tines. The comb will need to be secured to your catcher, make sure that you screw it in real good. You do not want it going lose as you pick your berries, do you now? This picker will allow you to pick more berries, when you go out.
