DIY PVC Soda Bottle Chicken Waterer

It never ceases to amaze me how many different ways we can provide water for our chickens or other birds. We have built the diy automatic rain water chicken waterer and the diy chicken nipple waterer in the past. Today I found some plans on this diy pvc soda bottle chicken waterer.

This is yet another simple and affordable diy project. In my case, I did not have to purchase any materials, I had some leftovers. However, even if you had to buy these materials at your local hardware store, they should not cost you more than $10 only.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • PVC Y fitting
  • PVC cap
  • 1L plastic soda bottle
  • nail
  • hammer
  • hand drill (optional)

As you can see from the required materials above, assembling this waterer is not rocket science. All you have to do is screw on the cap to one of the ends of your Y fitting. Make a couple of holes in the cap, with your hammer and nails. Start with a one or two and add more as needed.

Fill the bottle with water, screw the cap on the bottle and flip it upside down into one of the other openings of the Y fitting. The water should start to drip into the waterer and the chickens can stick their heads into the open end to access the drinking water.

Just refill the bottle when the water is finished, once or twice a day should be fine. It depends on how many chickens you have drinking from your waterer. This nifty little idea also saves you a couple of trips to the coop, to check on the water everyday.
