It just so happens that you own or you find an old truck topper, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Hey, what if I build a goat barn using this? I certainly think not! LOL However after browsing this post on this diy truck topper goat barn, you are probably going to try give it a go. Finally the goats get that ‘car’ they have always wanted.
The project itself is not difficult, especially if you know your way around power tools and have some wood working knowledge. This kind of setup is probably best for a few goats only, it would not be wise to pack them all in there like sardines. A car junkyard or garage is a good place to go hunting for a truck topper. And just like that, this has turned into yet another repurposing project.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- old truck topper
- lumber or plywood
- wooden screws or nails
- handheld drill
- tape measure
- marker
- hinges
- gate latch
- miter saw
- jigsaw
- metal brackets
The first thing you want to do is to measure the length and width of your topper. With those measurements in hand, you can then cut the plywood to create your wooden box frame that the topper will sit on. Build each wall seperately, then assemble the box frame, attaching the walls together using metal brackets for reinforcement. Make sure it is sturdy, you do not want the topper collapsing on the sleeping goats inside.
On one of the shorter walls, measure and cut out a door for the entrance to the barn. Add some hinges to allow it to swing open, and a gate latch to secure the door. With the frame complete you can place the topper in place to act as the roof for your barn. I know we started this off as a goat barn, but you could also turn it into a coop for the chickens or a hutch for the rabbits. Let your imagination run wild with this one! 🙂
