Although we use normal garden beds made from just garden soil, we also try different setups in our garden. So far we have tried the diy cinder block garden beds, diy brick raised garden beds and diy straw bale raised garden beds. Next on the list is going to be this diy u-shaped raised garden bed design.
The advantages of using the raised garden bed setup include the usual better drainage and super quality garden soil associated with raised garden beds. However there is the added benefit of the u shape desigh, which makes it easier to access most of the plants. There is also less effort and energy is required when gardening and this makes the whole process more enjoyable, as it should be.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- circular saw
- power drill or driver
- hammer and a trowel
- pine and cedar planks
- measuring tape
- marker
- garden soil
- compost (optional)
- 2×2 posts
- wood screws or nails
- garden fence (optional)
Use the drawing and rendering plan to guide you when making the required cuts using the circular saw. Once you have all your cuts, go ahead and lay them in the area you would like to build your raised garden bed. Measure and mark where your posts will go, and then drive them into the ground.
Each side will need additional support as you join two cedar or pine planks, screw in the supports using the drill. Then you can attach the respective side to the posts, repeat this the whole way around the garden bed. With the enclosure complete, go ahead and fill the garden bed with the soil. All that is left is to plant your seeds or seedlings. Happy Gardening! 🙂
