DIY Rail Fence

There is something about having a fence around your property that enhances its appeal. Don’t ask me what, because it is just the way I feel after fencing in one side of our homestead. Up until now the only other fence we had was this diy garden stick fence, for our garden. I took some time to research different designs, and I particularly liked this diy rail fence design.

You know I always go for simplicity when it comes to these projects. This is the very reason why I chose this particular one. If you have access to logs available freely on your property, then I definitely would recommend this for you too. It is based on the traditional design, popularly known as a split rail fence. Feel free to adjust the design, to fit your property’s requirements.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • logs
  • circular saw
  • wire
  • hole digger
  • string
  • stakes
  • nails (optional)
  • hammer (optional)

The best location to start, is on clear level ground until you get the hang of it. Even then you will still need to use some string to help you keep your lines straight and within your property. For your base, simply lay down some split logs. The next layer goes on top of that first base layer.

Repeat this process until the desired height is reached. Avoid any angles way greater than 90 degrees, as this will result in an unstable fence. Blocks and rocks placed under the base layer can be used to level the fence.Stakes will be used to hold the fence in place, these can be driven into the ground or just left above ground if that is not possible.
