Now that summer is officially over, and the snow has even made an appearance you are not going to need those kiddie pools. I have shown you how to make a diy kiddie pool chick brooder in a previous post. Today I would like to share how to make this diy kiddie pool duck brooder for your little ducks.
These diy brooder projects are usually simple and straight forward. I know the title makes it seem like this one is meant for ducks only. However, you can actually use this for any poultry including your chickens and your turkeys. Instead of buying brand new pools for this project, you could save yourself a pretty penny by re-using some that are leaking and have had their days.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 2 kiddie pools
- hardware cloth
- marker
- tape measure
- utility knife
- wire cutters
- handheld drill
- shavings
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1.
Measure out and mark a square on the bottom part of the pool.
Step 2.
Use the utility knife to cut it out the market square.
Step 3.
Measure and cut out hardware cloth that will cover the square you cut out in the pool.
Step 4.
Drill eight holes, one on each side of the corner.
Step 5.
Attach the hardware cloth to the pool, using a nut bolt and washer.
Step 6.
Drill two more holes through the bottom rim of the pools.
Step 7.
Attach a permanant bolt on one end and this will hold the two pools together, but allow them to swivel open.
Step 8.
Put some shavings on the bottom, before introducing your ducks to the brooder.
What type of shavings you use, is pretty much up to you. Whatever you have should work. Don’t forget to also add a waterer and a feeder for your ducks, before shutting them inside. Instead of using bolts to attach the hardware cloth and the pools, you can use some heavy gauge wire instead or even zip ties. Take the time to clean out your brooder, you know how messy ducks can be.
